The ACP is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program that alleviates the cost burden of essential broadband connection and internet-connected devices for low-income households.
The ACP provides:
- up to $30/month discount for select broadband services with participating providers.
- a one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet purchased through a participating provider if the household contributes more than $10 but less than $50 toward the purchase price.
The role of the MRPC in this program is to conduct outreach to increase enrollment, as well as assist in the application process. There are a few ways a household can qualify, but the qualification that may be most prevalent in school districts is the participation in free or reduced-price school meal programs, including through the USDA Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).
Richland Elementary School is classified as a CEP school for the 2023-2024 school year.
